Myanmar Storytellers is a member of the Yangon based youth association, Volunteers Network, which works with the schools for disadvantaged children.
This project aims to produce 9,000 books, 3,000 in each of three main Myanmar languages, retelling the ancient folktales of the nation in an effort to increase the understanding of and respect for other religions and ethnicities among children.
This peace effort is much needed after 60 years of political and ethnic conflict and the recent heightened religious violence in the country.
The volunteer members of the group will author, produce and perform the stories in a range of poor community schools, always ensuring the highest quality by coordinating with educators and community activists.
