Child’s Dream is constantly looking for volunteers who would like to work in our Chiang Mai office (Please read our 'Desired Profile of a volunteer') or on site in a project supported by us. Volunteering with Child’s Dream does not mean spending a holiday in Thailand! Please also bear in mind, that volunteering is unpaid work. To volunteer means to do challenging work, to be exposed to difficult situations but it also means getting an outstanding opportunity to develop your personality and to experience enriching moments that you will remember all your life. In order to better understand Child’s Dream working concept, we ask you to carefully read our webpage before contacting us.

Many interested volunteers have contacted us in the past. Here, we would like to answer the most frequent questions and inform potential volunteers about our selection criteria (it goes without saying that the welfare of the children is our primary concern and consequently we have to be very selective about our volunteers):

Professional skills
We are particularly interested in volunteers with a professional background in teaching, medicine, IT or civil engineering. However, we consider candidates with other professional backgrounds as well.

Duration of stay
We are interested in hosting volunteers for at least 4 months, since it is important to understand our work and its implications (in special cases we accept volunteers for a shorter period of time, please see below).

Good English language skills
Our primary language of communication is English and it is very important that volunteers bring along solid English language skills; any additional language skills are highly welcome.

Previous exposure to foreign cultures
Our experience shows that living and working in a foreign culture can be very demanding. Previous experience in working abroad is therefore an advantage. (Please read our 'Dos and don'ts in Thailand')

Willingness to adapt
All our projects are basic 'grass roots' projects. Accommodation, sanitary installations and food do not correspond to Western standards – it is useful if volunteers bringing along experience as 'back-pack travellers'. (Please read our 'Hints before your arrival')

Flexibility
Working hours and working demands cannot be compared to traditional working circumstances in Western countries; 'going the extra mile' and sometimes working on weekends or working overtime is expected.

If you are interested in volunteering for Child’s Dream, kindly send us the following documents for assessment:

Curriculum Vitae
Motivation essay
Letter of recommendation

As a volunteer, you're requested to cover your own living expenses. However, some of our projects might offer free housing and/or free food. Child’s Dream does not pay any wages.

If you are interested in volunteering for Child’s Dream, if you like the kind of work you will be doing and if you fulfill the relevant selection criteria, please do not hesitate to contact us. We are looking forward to getting to know you.
