We realized that charitable funds are spread unevenly among various projects, resulting in an inefficient use of funds. More established and well-connected projects often receive excess funds, leading to non-essential investments, whereas smaller, newer or low profile projects lack money and can often hardly cover their running costs. This leads to a significant lack of essential infrastructure, medical attention, education, etc. These projects often try to survive by only providing food and shelter. Child’s Dream aims to help improve this situation by supporting projects, which really need help. In order to ensure an optimal use of funds, we provide infrastructure as well as personal items to meet health and educational needs (cloths, stationery, etc.) directly to the projects concerned rather than giving money to cover running costs.

Our objectives are: Providing support to projects caring for children living in poverty
  Unconditional support
  Fund allocation with integrity
  Fundraising through personal relationships and trust
  Maintain independence and diversity
  Financial transparency
  Minimal administration expenses

Providing support to projects caring for children living in poverty

Our primary objective is to support projects that provide relief and aid to orphans or children living in poverty. Our organization permanently screens projects in the Mekong Sub-Region.

Unconditional support
It is a main target to provide support to projects that care 'unconditionally' for children in need. Unconditional means that these projects do not attach any conditions to their support (e.g. conversion of religion) and that children's nationality, gender, religion, ethnic affiliation, etc. is not a selection criteria.

Fund allocation with integrity

We are determined to allocate the charitable funds where aid and relief seem most appropriate. The following criteria are applied when selecting projects:

  1. Management team (stability, integrity, etc.);
  2. Priorities (shelter, food, health care, education, cultural and religious heritage, sport);
  3. Financial transparency;
  4. Integration into local community and relationship with local authorities;
  5. Financial stability (be able to cover running costs).

The allocation of charitable funds will be made through direct investments according to the needs of the selected project. We will avoid cash payments or fund transfers directly to the project concerned to ensure the optimal use of charitable funds. For example, if project X has no access to clean water, Child’s Dream would build a well together with local suppliers and pay the suppliers directly. This process ensures that funds are used properly.

Fundraising through personal relationships and trust

We conduct fundraising, mainly in Switzerland, Singapore and Hong Kong, based on personal relationships and trust. The main objective is to maintain an ongoing and personal interaction with our sponsors by the following means:

  1. Regular updates via internet and e-mail;
  2. Regular get-togethers;
  3. Possibility for sponsors to visit projects locally.

By building up trust, we experience that the sponsor community grows steadily by means of mouth-to-mouth promotion.

Maintain independence and diversity
We are determined to stay politically neutral and are committed to religious freedom in order to avoid conflicts of interest. To ensure an unbiased allocation of funds, we aim to stay independent from the projects concerned. However, Child’s Dream or its members of the board can engage with other independent or unrelated organisations for purposes of networking and exchange of know-how.

Financial transparency

Child’s Dream is striving for financial transparency. Transparent book-keeping is maintained and disclosed. Financial data is published on our website 'Financials'. The reporting year is the calendar year.

Minimal administration expenses
We are proud that we can maintain an administration expense ratio well below the industry average. Administrative expenses are costs covering rent, stationery, postage, internet, telephone, petrol, marketing, etc.
